Why a Purse Is the Hardest Place to Carry Pepper Spray

A purse is one of the worst places to carry pepper spray if you actually need it fast. Most purses have you digging through keys, a wallet, and loose items before you find anything. In a real moment, that costs you seconds you do not have.

Keep It Out of the Main Compartment

Reach into your bag right now and see how long it takes to find your pepper spray without looking. If it takes more than a couple seconds, move it somewhere better. Do this again every time you switch bags, since a new purse means a new layout and new muscle memory to build.

Pick a Size That Will Not Get Buried

A large canister might hold more spray, but if it sinks to the bottom of a big bag it does you no good. A slim keychain size or a small stream canister that fits in a dedicated pocket beats a bigger one you can never find in time.

The best pepper spray for a purse is not about the biggest can or the highest heat rating. It is the one you can actually get to in a couple seconds when you need it.
